Recent technological advancements have been haptic from mobile to desktop use. It seems that everybody needs a laptop and a mobile device wherever they go. I should know because I’m one of them. In 2009, after years of living the life of gadget freak, I never thought I’d discover something more amazing besides the Internet.
Before I tell you my discovery, it is noteworthy to discuss the top 3 software manufacturers who have lead the development for desktop and mobile concerns.
1. MICROSOFT WINDOWS:
I refuse to believe that there is a person who has used a computer (even once in his entire life) who has not heard of Microsoft. One of the pioneers of both desktop and mobile software development, Microsoft Windows is among the more popular software for desktop such as Windows XP, Windows Vista and the current and most popular: Windows 7. Microsoft has improved the performance and compatibility issues of Windows Vista in Windows 7. They have improved the user interface with its aero peek and windows shake. This is quite a step for desktop software. For mobile device, Microsoft started with the pocket pc and has evolved from Windows Mobile 5, 6.1, 6.5 and its new release the Windows Mobile 7. The Windows 6.5 is a stable build for mobile solutions however its UI is quite slower than other mobile devices available. Windows Mobile 7 reviews are not yet available because it is very recent and because I shifted to another platform.
2. MAC and Apple Devices:
One of the most fashionable OS for desktop is the Apple's Mac OS with its eye-candy UI and classic design to the very core of their devices, Apple is equipped for performance. Among the most popular devices Apple pioneered is the multimedia device with their Ipod. It has the ability to play mp3 and aac and for video support and mp4 in wide range of qualities from mobile to high definition playback. Apple evolved in introducing the Ipod touch, Iphone and the most recent device, the Ipad, a multimedia tablet designed as companion for Mac users. On the other hand, device restrictions are a pain especially with their flash support and other media formats.
3. Google Android Devices:
This is the platform developed by Google. The android devices have a number of flavors such as: the donut (1.6), eclair (2.1), froyo (2.2) and the coming development of ginger bread (2.3). Currently, the available official flavor is froyo though some devices are not yet supported since they are still in the development stage.
The following features are available in froyo but are not available in other devices.
1. Flash 10.1 support which has the ability for android native browser to view flash supported pages over the net.
2. Native support for wide range of media formats capable of viewing 720p videos.
3. Hot spot support with the 2.2 froyo platform devices which can be used as a wifi router over 3g or hsdpa access. How cool is that!
More developments are coming up made in the froyo platform but that will be for another article so watch out for it.
After that short overview, I will now explore the android as your all-in-one tool for all your needs. I have 3 android devices which I have named and maximized for their ability and usefulness.
myBuddy, the samsung galaxy S vibrant edition.
(please insert tech specs and screen shots of the device)
The Samsung Galaxy S is equipped with the eclair platform. Custom roms are available but I am using the more stable beta version of Team Whiskey (please insert link) which is equipped with the 2.2 froyo platform. I call the Samsung galaxy s myBuddy because of its unmatched functionality in providing all my computing needs. Almost like having a laptop in your pocket. To understand the power of myBuddy, I will enumerate its uses:
Media Service:
The Samsung Galaxy S is equipped with an audio and video player that can support mp3, aac, avi, 3gp, mp4 formats up to 720 in mkv. It is also equipped with 720p HD Recording to capture moments which can be played in HD. It is also has an-all share feature which gives you the ability to play upnp and dlna media from your media server.
Internet Usefulness:
myBuddy is equipped with a 3g to HSDPA internet access for internet access when you want it. It also has wifi access both b&g so you can access the net using any internet connection. To top it all, the Samsung Galaxy S is the mobile AP which turns your phone into a wifi router so you can share your 3g or HSDPA access with other nearby devices. It is also has with GPS/AGPS and NAVDROYD so you don’t have to ask for directions anymore. It has pre-loaded maps with accessible directions using an internet connection. For file transfer or sharing, it is equipped with edr bluetooth 3.0. myBuddy is truly a bad ass in internet connectivity.
Phone and Social Hub:
With the android device, your phone contact is synced with your Google account. They even went all out allowing you to sync your facebook contacts, twitter accounts, linkid, yahoo contacts and linkid friends. Since all these accounts are web based, you will never fear losing your contacts. That’s quite a feature for a phone! For IM or chat concerns, I use this to get connected with your ym and facebook friends anytime. With the 2.2 froyo you can now enjoy Skype over 3g or wifi.
Document Concerns:
With developers supporting android devices, your documents can be accessed anytime, anywhere. With thinkfree, you can upload copies of your documents for secure backup, other document tools similar to thinkfree documents to go and quick office so the job gets done virtually anywhere you are.
